1. INTRODUCTION
Welcome to Verse Zine. Your privacy is important to us.
This Privacy Policy explains how Subcreation Design, LLC (“Verse Zine,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use our website and services (the “Service”).
Our Service exists to let you browse and read creative work, license and download assets, and support the work you value through funding goals—not to collect or sell your personal data. Any personal information we request is limited to what we reasonably need to operate the Service, protect it from abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
By creating an account, using the Service, or downloading any asset, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Policy and our Terms & Conditions.
2. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
We keep data collection to the minimum necessary to run the Service, protect it from abuse, and improve it over time.
a. Information You Provide
- Account details – such as your name, email address, and password (your password is handled securely by our authentication provider and is never visible to us in plain text).
- Profile and plan details – such as which subscription plan you’re on, your credit balance, and your account settings.
- Communications – messages you send us (for example, support requests, feedback, or licensing questions).
b. Service Usage Information
To operate the Service and let you access your library, we store:
- Your credit balance and transaction history, including which assets you licensed, which funding goals you backed, and when those transactions occurred.
- Basic account activity such as sign-in timestamps and whether you’ve completed key actions (e.g., plan changes).
As the Service develops, we may also collect information about how you interact with content on the platform—for example, which works you browse or read. If we introduce this kind of data collection, we will update this Policy accordingly.
This information is used so you can:
- see and re-download assets you’ve licensed,
- track the funding goals you’ve backed, and
- manage your subscription and credits.
c. Payment & Billing Information
All payments are processed by Stripe via our membership provider, Memberstack.
We do not store credit card numbers, billing addresses, or payment method details on our servers. Memberstack informs us of your subscription status (which plan you have and whether it’s active) so we can manage your monthly Credits.
Our systems track:
- Your Credit balance and Credit transaction history (when Credits are awarded, redeemed for asset licenses, or committed to funding goals)
- Your subscription tier for account management purposes
- Aggregate conversion and revenue data via Google Analytics 4 for business analytics
We also retain limited transaction and billing metadata necessary for accounting, support, and fraud prevention.
All payment processing and sensitive payment information remains within Stripe’s secure systems in accordance with PCI-DSS standards.
d. Cookies & Similar Technologies
Our Service relies on third-party providers that use cookies and similar tracking technologies. These include:
- Memberstack – for authentication and keeping you logged in
- Stripe – for secure payment processing
- Pinterest – for advertising conversion tracking and optimization
- Google Analytics 4 – for understanding site usage in aggregate
- ClickGuard – for advertising fraud detection
These technologies are used to:
- Maintain your session and keep you logged in
- Remember your selections during checkout and browsing
- Protect against fraud and abuse
- Measure advertising effectiveness
- Understand how the Service is used in aggregate
We also use browser session storage (not cookies) to temporarily store your selections during browsing and checkout.

We use third-party advertising platforms to deliver targeted advertisements and measure campaign effectiveness. These platforms may place cookies, pixels, or similar tracking technologies on your device to collect information about your browsing activity, both on our Site and across other websites.
Specifically, we use:

e. Fraud Prevention & Security Data
To protect our Service, users, and business from bots, abuse, and fraudulent activity, we may collect and process:
- IP addresses and approximate location,
- device/browser information,
- security and error logs,
- information from our payment providers, advertising fraud detection services (such as ClickGuard), and other fraud-prevention partners indicating suspected abuse or unusual activity.
We use this data only to secure the Service, prevent attacks, and enforce our Terms.
f. Email & Communication Preferences
When you create an account, we use your email address to send:
- essential account and transactional messages (for example, sign-in links, billing notices, license confirmations, funding goal updates, important service updates), and
- optional product updates, newsletters, or feature announcements related to Verse Zine, Verse Zine Royalty Free, and Verse Zine Patron.
You can opt out of non-essential emails (such as newsletters or promotional updates) at any time by using the unsubscribe link included in those messages or by contacting us. We will still send emails that are necessary to operate your account and fulfill our contractual obligations to you.
3. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and maintain the Service – create and manage your account, track credits, allow you to license and re-download assets, deliver content you have access to, and record your funding goal participation.
- Process payments and subscriptions – via Stripe and Memberstack or similar providers.
- Communicate with you – send essential account notices, licensing records, funding goal updates, service updates, responses to support inquiries, and (where permitted) optional product news or feature announcements.
- Secure the Service – detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or attacks; enforce our Terms & Conditions; and protect our rights and the rights of our users.
- Improve the Service – understand how people use the site in aggregate so we can prioritize improvements, inform editorial decisions, and develop future features.
We do not use your personal information to build external advertising profiles, and we do not sell your personal data. We do use third-party advertising and analytics tools that may collect browsing data on our site; under some state privacy laws, this may be classified as “sharing” for targeted advertising purposes (see Section 12 for details and opt-out options). Aggregate and anonymized usage data—such as how many readers have backed a funding goal—may be used internally to inform editorial and operational decisions, but individual user activity is never disclosed to third parties for those purposes.
4. LEGAL BASES (IF APPLICABLE)
Depending on where you live, our legal basis for processing your personal data may include:
- Contractual necessity – to provide you with the Service you signed up for.
- Legitimate interests – to secure our Service, prevent fraud, and improve our offerings.
- Consent – for optional communications or features where consent is required.
5. HOW WE SHARE YOUR INFORMATION
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
We only share information with third parties that help us run the Service, including:
- Memberstack – for account management and authentication.
- Stripe (and similar payment processors) – to process subscription and one-time payments securely.
- Hosting and infrastructure providers – to host our website and data.
- Security and fraud-prevention providers – to help detect bots, abusive traffic, and fraudulent activity.
- Email and support tools – for sending essential account emails and responding to your messages.
- Advertising platforms (Pinterest and similar services) – to deliver and measure ad campaigns
These providers are only allowed to use your data as necessary to perform services on our behalf, consistent with this Policy and our contracts with them.
We may also disclose information if required by law, in response to valid legal requests, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Verse Zine, our users, or the public.
6. DATA SECURITY
We use industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including:
- encrypted connections (HTTPS),
- secure authentication and session management through Memberstack, and
- the security infrastructure of our payment and hosting partners.
No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your information safe and review our protections as the Service evolves.
7. DATA RETENTION
We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to:
- maintain your account, library, and funding goal records,
- provide and improve the Service,
- comply with legal, accounting, and tax obligations, and
- enforce our Terms & Conditions.
If you request account deletion, we will:
- remove or anonymize personal data associated with your account from our active systems, except for information we are required or reasonably need to keep (for example, billing records, funding goal transaction records, security logs, and minimal audit data), which we retain only as long as necessary for those purposes.
Fraud- and abuse-related records may be retained longer where necessary to protect our Service and users.
8. YOUR RIGHTS & CHOICES
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.

You can update most account details directly through your account settings. For other requests, contact us at nathan@subcreation.design.
If you are in a region with formal data protection regulations (such as the EU/EEA, UK, or similar jurisdictions), you may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
9. CHILDREN’S PRIVACY
Our Service is not intended for individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from someone under 18, we will take reasonable steps to delete it as soon as possible.
If you believe that a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us at nathan@subcreation.design so we can investigate and remove it if necessary.
10. INTERNATIONAL USERS
Our Service is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., your information may be processed and stored in the U.S. or in other countries where our service providers operate, which may have different data protection laws than your home jurisdiction.
Where applicable law requires additional safeguards for cross-border transfers, we will rely on appropriate mechanisms (such as standard contractual clauses with our providers).
11. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as the Service evolves.
If we make significant changes, we will notify you through one or more of the following:
- an email to the address associated with your account,
- a notice on our website, or
- an in-app notification.
The “Last Updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Policy.
12. ADDITIONAL DISCLOSURES FOR U.S. STATE PRIVACY LAWS
If you are a resident of California, Virginia, Colorado, or other U.S. states with privacy laws, this section provides additional information about your rights.

- Commercial information (subscription history, download records, funding goal participation)

- Payment information (processed by Stripe; we store limited transaction data)
How We Use This Information:
- To provide and improve the Service

Third Parties We Share With:
- Service providers (Memberstack, Stripe, hosting providers)

- Right to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for targeted advertising
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights
We do not sell your personal information.
When we advertise on platforms like Pinterest, those platforms require us to use their tracking technology (such as the Pinterest Tag) to measure ad effectiveness. As described in Section 2d, this means Pinterest collects information about your activity on our Site. This is a standard technical requirement for digital advertising, not something we profit from.
Under some state privacy laws, this technical requirement is classified as “sharing” personal information for advertising purposes, even though we do not receive payment for it and do not control Pinterest’s data collection practices.
You can opt out of this sharing using:
- Pinterest’s opt-out tool: https://help.pinterest.com/en/article/personalization-and-data
- Your browser’s cookie settings
- Industry opt-out tools: https://optout.aboutads.info or https://youronlinechoices.eu
If you opt out through these mechanisms, you may still see ads from us, but they will not be targeted based on your browsing behavior across other sites.
To exercise other privacy rights, contact us at nathan@subcreation.design with “Privacy Request” in the subject line.
